LED Color Temperature Chart With Real World Examples June 28, 2018 – Posted in: Lighting Information, General Info, Home Lighting
Because color temperature is hard to photograph accurately (mostly due to white balance), we recommend referring the the first color temperature chart (above) for reference. Below there is some photographed samples but there might be differences in true color and the photograph.
If you haven’t seen our in-depth guide on color temperature, you can see it here.
How To Measure Color Temperature Of Light With Your Phone?
If you ever need to measure the approximate color temperature of a light bulb or fixture, do it with any modern smart phone, just follow these steps:
- Make sure the target light fixture is the only light source (any outside light could throw off the reading)
- Open your phone camera
- Set your smartphone camera settings to “pro mode” so you have control over white balance.
- Disable auto white balance and place the phone camera as close to the light as possible
- The reading should be displayed as your white balance reading
It’s typically within ~100-150 Kelvin within the intended reading. I hope these tricks and color temperature charts helped you make the right choice!

Constantly learning and passing on knowledge to others while excited for what the lighting industry will involve into next.
